Tests & Results

Remember, unnecessary tests are more likely to lead to harm. Please see our practice policy on tests for more information.

Blood tests

Please call the phlebotomy hub (blood taking team) on 0141 355 1525 if a member of staff asks you to arrange a blood test. They will help you arrange your test and will know which tests are required. The most convenient place for blood tests is in the treatment room in Drumchapel Health Centre but ask if you want a different location.  Typically, it takes 2-3 days for results to be sent to us and we will try and contact you via phone to discuss any abnormal results. Please make sure we have your correct contact details. If you have not heard anything after one week of having the test and would like to know the result, please call the practice.

X-rays

If a GP requests an X-ray for you they will provide you with a form. When you are ready for the X-ray take the form to the X-ray department at Gartnavel General Hospital between 9:30am and 4pm Monday to Friday (the department is closed outside these times including weekends and bank holidays). You do not need an appointment. Make sure you attend the department promptly as the X-ray department will not do your X-ray if you fail to attend within 28 days of the X-ray request. This then causes unnecessary delay and administration time as the doctor will need to re-order the test.

Ultrasound scans

Once the GP has made a request for an ultrasound scan you will be contacted by the Ultrasound department regarding an appointment. Please make sure we have your correct contact details so that they can contact you.

Other tests

GPs are able to arrange CT scans of your chest and MRI scans of your knee in specific circumstances. The GP will notify you of the arrangements for these scans if they feel they will be helpful.
